      Campus- Evans Hall

      Evans Hall

Evans Hall stands proudly as the landmark anchor of the North Oval.  It serves as the administration building and office of the President.  Having lost the first two administration buildings to fire, Evans Hall was constructed of fireproof bricks in 1912.  It is viewed as one of the finest examples of Collegiate Gothic, later dubbed “Cherokee Gothic” by Frank Lloyd Wright, in the United States.  Additionally, the interior woodwork was considered the finest in the state.

Evans Hall is named for Arthur Grant Evans, second president of the University.  Educated in England, he was instrumental not only in the construction of this building, but also responsible for the reorganization of the academic structure into colleges and schools.
