Campus- Sam Noble Museum of Natural History

Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History

Richly blessed with fossil fuels, Oklahoma’s also got the fossils to go with ‘em!  The 198,000-square-foot Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is the one of the finest university-based natural history museums in the world.  This gorgeous, wonder-filled facility is home to 6 million artifacts, not the least of which is the largest Apatosaurus (once called Brontosaurus) in the world and priceless Native American artifacts, including the oldest painted object ever found in North America.

The Territorial Legislature established this museum of natural history in 1899, prior to statehood.  In 2000, it was moved into its present home, endowed by the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation.  Admission is free to OU students, and hosts educational opportunities for all ages.
