1. Go to the Housing Office (Walker Tower) to get your rent pro-rated, go over the check-out rules and discuss your deposit reimbursement information.
2. Schedule a checkout time with your apartment manager prior to leaving. You do not turn in the keys until your apartment has been checked. You can schedule an appointment time for the weekend but this must all be done 7 days before your departure from OU.
3. Leave your apartment very clean or you will be charged a cleaning fee.
4. Students who are requesting an extension of their check out date need to do so by email with the actual date they wish to leave. Extensions are not always granted. Normal checkout time is the 1st Sunday after finals are done.
A record of your grades is called a transcript. You must submit a transcript request form to receive your grades from OU. You will receive this form via email but it is also available online. We will submit the requests for you to help ensure that your grades are mailed once the semester is over. If you leave without doing this, your grades will never be sent. Official transcripts will take 6-8 weeks to be mailed to your home country.
Grades can be seen at studentservices.ou.edu one week after the last day of finals.
Make sure that you pay your bill in full before you leave. If you are having any problems and need help, ask in the Education Abroad Office. Leave your home country address on file with the Bursar’s Office. If they do need to refund money to you, they will have an address in which to send it.
Exchange students departing the U.S. after the expiration date on the DS-2019 form cannot use the form to re-enter the U.S. in J-1 immigration status.
If you depart the United States even for a short visit to Canada or Mexico and intend to return to the U.S. to catch a plane to your home country, you cannot return on an expired DS2019 form. You might be able to reenter the U.S. in visitor or tourist status. Some students are eligible for the "Visa Waiver Program" which allows entry into the U.S. as a tourist without having an actual tourist visa stamp in your passport. Please check the Visa Waiver Program web site for more information or consult with the International Student Services Office in 224 Old Science Hall, next to Education Abroad.
Students not eligible for the Visa Waiver Program will not be allowed to re-enter the country, even if it is only to catch a plane to the home country.
Additional travel or immigration questions should be referred to the International Student Services office, Hester Hall 155 or by contacting ISS by email at iss@ou.edu.
