What is the ISIC card?

The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is a major internationally accepted identity card for students traveling abroad. While many places will not accept your OU ID as valid proof of being a student, this card is widely accepted and can serve both as a photo ID and a discount card for travel, entertainment, phone calls, and other useful things for students abroad!

In addition, some OU students use this to pick up supplementary insurance specifically for medical evacuation and repatriation of remains.  That coverage comes automatically with the low price of the card.  However, the card ALONE does not provide medical insurance for illnesses and emergencies abroad.

See www.myisic.com for more information on the ISIC

Does this card include insurance?

While the basic ISIC card does NOT provide any medical insurance for students traveling abroad, it does provide the following basic travel insurances:

  1. Repatriation of remains
  2. Medical evacuation

These are included in the cost of the card. Many students whose regular medical insurance does not provide these choose to buy the ISIC in order to guarantee this type of coverage.

Please see the web site  for more details on coverage included with the purchase of the card.

Where can I buy one?
