 Description

Internet EDI involves interchanges over the Internet of a sequence of
standardized messages taken from a predetermined set of message types.
Like EDI, Internet EDI requires a number of software applications such as
mapping and translator software. For example, an EDI transaction may be
initiated when an electronic purchase order is generated by normal business
software application of the buyer. The purchase order is then routed via
mapping software to EDI translation software also residing on the company's
computers. The translator converts the data to an appropriate EDI standard
and usually batch processes the purchase orders at night. Following the
translation, the files may be transferred via the Internet.
