OU Mourns Passing of Joyce Brandes

Joyce Ann Krittenbrink Brandes passed away surrounded by her family on the morning of Sept. 21, 2023. A leader in special education in Norman, Brandes received her bachelor’s (1972), master’s (2000) and doctoral (2004) degrees from the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, joining the faculty full time in 2004.

Spring 2024 Commencement Update

Beginning in May 2024, OU will be merging its one university-wide Commencement ceremony and 19 separate College Convocations into combined Commencement ceremonies. Each of these ceremonies will be held at Lloyd Noble Center unless otherwise noted.

OU and Arkansas Continue Successful Razorback-Sooner Scholars Program With New Grant

The University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions partnered with the University of Oklahoma's Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education in 2019 to help improve outcomes for students with disabilities. The Razorback-Sooner Scholars: Leaders for Transition (L4T) team just received a $2.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to continue this successful program.

OU Announces $86 Million Initiative to Benefit Oklahoma Students’ College and Career Readiness

Representatives from the University of Oklahoma hosted a celebration of a new initiative, “GEAR UP for LIFE,” on Nov. 9. The program is a partnership between OU’s K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal and 28 under-resourced schools across 23 primarily rural school districts in Oklahoma to help students and their families prepare for college and workforce training.

Briscoe Receives Association for the Study of Higher Education Award

Assistant Professor Kaleb L. Briscoe was named the Council on Ethnic Participation Mildred E. García Award for Exemplary Scholarship winner by the Association for the Study of Higher Education. Briscoe received her award at the ASHE annual conference, held Nov. 16-18 in Minneapolis.

OU researchers have received a $1.8 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to establish a research center to address children’s cumulative health impacts from agricultural and non-chemical exposures.

Graduate Student Creates Lesson for PBS Film

Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education doctoral student Amelia Cook was selected to create a science lesson to be shared in the Ken Burns in the Classroom collection by PBS in conjunction with Burns’ film <i>The American Buffalo</i>.
