Stewart Honored With Presidential Award

Macey (Morgan) Stewart was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in June 2018. Stewart, who received her undergraduate degree in elementary education from the college in 2006 and a master of education degree from ILAC in 2008, is a second-grade teacher at Washington Elementary in Norman.

Established in 1983, PAEMST is the highest award kindergarten-through-12th-grade mathematics and science teachers can receive from the U.S. government. This year, on the award’s 35th anniversary, kindergarten through sixth-grade teachers were honored.

Stewart is involved in professional development at the district and site level. At the district level, she has served on the Math Advisory Board to learn about best practices in mathematics and distributes that information to her faculty. As part of the district’s efforts to provide mathematics benchmark assessments, Macey became a trainer for Mastery Connect. Throughout her career, she has been an Intelligent Classroom, Technology and Everyday Math trainer as well.

At the site level, Macey serves on the leadership, hospitality and safety committees, and is a professional learning community presenter. She also mentors several undergraduate student interns and practicum students from the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education.
