If the performance of duties does not meet the requirements
which have been given to the graduate assistant, the DEP chair
or supervisor shall so advise the graduate assistant, both
orally and in writing. An attempt will be made to work with
the graduate assistant in improving his/her performance.
Whenever grounds exist for the termination of appointment
prior to the end of the contract period, notice will be given
in writing to the graduate assistant, and a copy of the notice
sent to the dean of the college. The notice will specify the
reasons that termination is requested. These may fall within
the following categories:
• Academic misconduct
• Poor academic performance or excessive absences
from class
• Misconduct in instructional, research, or clinical
duties
• Inadequate performance in instructional, research,
or clinical duties
• Incapacitation for a significant period of time
Upon receipt of the notice, the graduate assistant may request
a hearing before the Graduate Assistant’s Appeals Board
within the following two-week period. Beyond that period,
he/she will have waived the hearing and the termination will
become effective. Unless gross misconduct exists, the graduate
assistant will continue in his/her regular duties up to the
date of the hearing. |
