The School Counseling Program was redesigned and reinstated
by the faculty in the Department of Educational Psychology
to meet the growing need for well trained school counselors.
The program consists of 48 semester hours leading to the Master
of Education (M.Ed.) Degree. We view counselor training as
essentially beginning at the graduate level, so students from
various academic backgrounds will likely qualify for the program.
The School Counseling Program is designed for persons preparing
to work in the elementary, middle, and high schools. This
program will lead to fulfilling the requirements for becoming
a Certified School Counselor. Students in the School Counseling
Program will need to create a portfolio
with work products included over the course of their training.
Students should speak with their advisors about the format
and mechanisms for creating and maintaining their portfolios.
