ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT ADMISSION TO GRADUATE PROGRAMS
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA

All admissions to the Graduate College require the possession of a Baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. In the succeeding paragraphs, all references to grade point averages are calculated on a 4.0 scale. References to credit hours are to semester credit hours.

Admissions of all foreign nationals from non-English speaking countries require demonstration of proficiency in English. Minimum evidence of proficiency is a score of 233 (or 575 on the old scoring system) on the TOEFL exam. For international students who do not speak English as their native tongue, a telephone or in-person interview with at least two faculty members will be required.

ADMISSION IN FULL STANDING

Any student having a "B" average or better (3.0 grade point average or better average in at least 12 hours of graduate work) may be admitted as a student in full standing provided he/she is accepted by the Department of Educational Psychology. If the last 60 hours cannot be identified from the applicant's transcript, the entire transcript will be evaluated for admission.

CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

Any student having a grade point average of 2.75 or better over the last 60 hours of undergraduate work may be conditionally admitted to the Graduate College provided he/she is accepted for conditional admission by the Department of Educational Psychology.

ADMISSION IN UNCLASSIFIED STATUS

A student in unclassified status is not a candidate for a degree. If the student is later accepted for a degree program, courses taken while in unclassified status may be used to fulfill graduate degree requirements only if accepted by the program. All graduate courses taken by a student while unclassified will be used in calculating the grade point average for purposes of satisfying degree or retention requirements.

Any student having a 3.0 average or better over the last 60 hours of undergraduate work, or a 3.0 average over 12 hours of graduate work from an accredited institution, may be admitted to the Graduate College in unclassified status. Those with a grade point average of 2.8 but less than 3.0 over the last 60 hours of undergraduate work may be conditionally admitted to the Graduate College in unclassified status.

ADMISSION IN SPECIAL STUDENT STATUS

A student failing to meet the above requirements may be admitted to the University in Special Student status. Special students are not considered to be in the Graduate College, and their course work cannot be transferred to a graduate degree program. Should a special student later apply (or re-apply) for admission to the Graduate College, his or her record of performance as a special student will supplement other application materials that are considered for determining admissibility.
