Our Adult
and Higher Education (EDAH) program is an interdisciplinary
study specifically designed to address significant post-secondary
issues facing our globe, nation, and society. Our program seeks
to understand how adult learners learn, how professionals develop
themselves, the concept of leadership and the ways to develop
the necessary skills and understanding to become effective leaders
in a variety of organizational settings.
We
are committed to developing people to become better teachers
and ways to design more effective academic and training programs,
including the use of distance education technologies such
as the
internet and interactive TV. We are also committed to exploring
training and development issues facing managers and workers
in
both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. These topics
are related to the adult education component of our curriculum.
On
the higher education side, we are committed to understanding
how colleges and universities work, issues affecting college
students and faculty, intercollegiate athletics administration
issues, and how best to lead and plan our colleges and universities
to meet the challenges of the future.
DEGREES
OFFERED
We
offer two exciting and challenging degree programs in
the
curriculum--the Master of Education degree (M.Ed.) and the
Doctor of Philosophy. From 1993 to 2003, we had
great success in offering our
master's degree program on several
U.S. military
installations
in Europe, which included Heidelberg, Ramstein,
and Spangdahlem (Germany); Aviano and Sigonella (Italy);
and Afcent (Netherlands). If you come from a military
background
and are
interested
in
finding out more about our program, its career opportunities,
and how to make the transition to the field and career, our
graduate student liaison, Blane Anderson (blanea@ou.edu)
who has a distinguished military record himself, will be
very happy to assist you.
