The Council
of Learned Societies in Education (CLSE) is a national federation of
professional associations and societies in the educational foundations,
educational studies, and educational policy studies fields devoted to
maintaining and strengthening the role of those foundations disciplines
in the preparation of educational personnel, in the study and analysis
of education, and in policymaking related to education at all levels
in the United States.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA), a professional
membership organization, strives to improve the educational process
by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education. AERA offers a
comprehensive program of scholarly publications, training, fellowships,
and meetings to advance educational research, to disseminate knowledge,
and to improve the capacity of the profession to enhance the public
good.

AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL

The American Educational Studies Association (AESA) was established
in 1968 as an international learned society for students, teachers,
research scholars, and administrators who are interested in the foundations
of education. AESA is a society primarily comprised of college and university
professors who teach and research in the field of education utilizing
one or more of the liberal arts disciplines of philosophy, history,
politics, sociology, anthropology, or economics as well as comparative/international
studies. As with all members of academe, keeping current with research
publications in one's discipline is on ongoing responsibility of critical
importance to the members of AESA.
The role
of AESA is to provide a cross-disciplinary forum wherein scholars might
gather to exchange and debate ideas generated from the above mentioned
areas. This cross-disciplinary commitment of the organization creates
a landscape for the discussion of broader policy issues such as minority
studies, gender studies, multicultural education, democracy, and issues
of educational equality and equity. Our membership is dedicated to examining
issues in education from a plurality of academic viewpoints and perspectives.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION

Mission Statement - AAUW promotes education and equity for all women
and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. The Association—with
more than 100,000 members, 1,300 branches, and 550 college/university
institution partners nationwide—advocates education and equity.
Since its founding in 1881, members have examined and taken positions
on the fundamental issues of the day—educational, social, economic,
and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in all aspects
of our work. The Association's voice has long influenced legislative
debate on critical social issues such as education, sex discrimination,
civil rights, reproductive choice, affirmative action, Title IX, welfare
reform, vocational education, pay equity, family and medical leave,
and health care reform.
ASSOCIATION OF MORAL
EDUCATION (AME)

Mission
Statement - The Association for Moral Education (AME) was founded in
1976 to provide an interdisciplinary forum for professionals interested
in the moral dimensions of educational theory and practice. The Association
is dedicated to fostering communication, cooperation, training, curriculum
development, and research that links moral theory with educational practice.
It supports self-reflective educational practices that value the worth
and dignity of each individual as a moral agent in a pluralistic society.
The Association emphasizes the development of moral understanding in
all individuals, and believes that such development requires opportunities
for engagement in moral dialogue. Through its program of conferences
and publications, the AME serves as a resource to educators, practitioners,
students, and the public in matters related to moral education and development,
provides expertise on educational policies and practices, and provides
information about moral education to interested parties in the general
public.
The AME
is governed by an Executive Board elected by and drawn from its membership,
and the active participation of all of the members of the Association
is encouraged. Members include public and private school teachers and
administrators, counselors and psychologists, philosophers, sociologists,
researchers, teacher educators, religious educators, and graduate students
interested in advancing the study of moral education. The AME invites
all professionals interested in moral education to be members.
Objectives
- To provide a forum for professionals who represent a wide variety
of positions in moral education; to foster communication, cooperation,
training, and research in moral education, and to serve as a resource
in matters related to moral education.

HISTORY OF EDUCATION SOCIETY (HES)

The History
of Education Society is an international scholarly society. Its purposes
are to:
- Promote
and improve the teaching of the history of education in colleges and
universities
- Encourage scholarly research in the history of education, and facilitate
the publication and dissemination of the results of that research Interest
the educational profession and the public at large in the value of historical
perspective in the making of educational policy
- Promote library and museum facilities for the preservation of source
materials in the history of education
- Cooperate with specialists in other disciplines to interpret educational
developments in a broad historical context

The International
Society of Educational Biography, ISEB, is a professional academic association
that encourages a variety of approaches to biographical study for the
purpose of education. Very specifically the purpose of ISEB is to:
- Promote
the scholarly study of lives of educators and their contributions to
pedagogical thought and practice. Analytical and interpretive approaches
of all kinds are sought;
- Encourage the exchange of ideas between scholars of education and
those from other disciplines who have an interest in the field of education
through their common bond of educational biography; and
- Promote the improvement of teaching in education by adding a biographical
dimension to the study of pedagogy.

THE JOHN DEWEY SOCIETY (JDS)

Founded
in 1935, the John Dewey Society exists to keep alive John Dewey's commitment
to the use of critical and reflective intelligence in the search for
solutions to crucial problems in education and culture. We subscribe
to no doctrine, but in the spirit of Dewey, we welcome controversy,
respect dissent, and encourage the responsible discussions of issues
of special concern to educators. We also promote open-minded, critical
reconsiderations of Dewey's influential ideas about democracy, education,
and philosophy.

Vision Statement - NWSA has a vision of a world in which all persons
can develop to their fullest potential and be free from all the ideologies
and structures that consciously and unconsciously oppress and exploit
some for the advantage of others.
To this
end, this organization is committed to support and promote feminist
teaching, research, and professional and community service at the pre-K
through post-secondary levels. Integral to this commitment is understanding
the political ramifications in our teaching, research and service.
NWSA is committed to the development of scholarship and research that
incorporates disciplinary, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, multicultural,
and/or global methods and perspectives to advance the study and knowledge
of all women and to create critical dialogue on the production of knowledge
about and related to all women and on the application of such knowledge
to social and political practices and processes. To that end, we recognize
the integral connection among scholarship, activism, and teaching.
NWSA is committed to the creation and growth of women's studies institutional
units dedicated to teaching, research, scholarship, and community activism,
and especially committed to the efforts of programs and departments
to realize the research and scholarship missions of NWSA. In order to
meet these goals, NWSA is also committed to a vision of academic work
that includes the participation of faculty, students, and community
scholars; the exchange of regional scholars; and the presence of community
organizations, both locally and globally, engaged in critical reflection

Statement - The Oklahoma Education Association shall promote the cause

employees in Oklahoma.

OKLAHOMA

Mission
- To support graduate students in the study of Foundations of Education,
which derives its character and methods from a number of academic disciplines,
combinations of disciplines, and area studies, including: history, philosophy,
sociology, anthropology, religion, political science, economics, psychology,
cultural studies, gender studies, and educational policy studies. The
purpose of Foundations Studies is to bring these disciplinary resources
to bear in developing interpretive, normative, and critical perspectives
on education, both inside and outside of schools.
PHILOSOPHY
OF EDUCATION SOCIETY (PES)

Objectives

- Promote the fundamental philosophic treatment of the problems of education;
- Promote the clarification of agreements and differences among the
several philosophies of education through the opportunities for discussion
afforded by annual meetings;

- Cultivate fruitful relationships between workers in general philosophy
and workers in philosophy of education;

SOCIETY OF PHILOSOPHY AND
HISTORY OF EDUCATION (SOPHE)

Formerly
known as the Southwestern Philosophy of Education Society, SOPHE encourages
scholarship in the philosophy and history of education as well as educational
biography and issues in education. The Journal of Philosophy and History
of Education (JOPHE) publishes papers selected from those presented
at SOPHE meetings, which occur annually in the fall.
The Educational
Foundations Society, a special interest group within SOPHE, meets before
the annual meeting to discuss the current landscape of the foundations
of education. The society also sponsors the Bill Drake Lecture, which
is featured as part of the annual meeting.
