                Undergraduate Requirements
                        English/Language Arts Education
 
               Master's Degree
                        The purpose of the master's program in English Education is to advance
                student understanding of Middle/Secondary English teaching, content, and research.

Core (11 hrs minimum)
               Studies in Teaching and Learning (3 hrs)
               Studies in Cultural Diversity (2-3 hrs)
               Research (6 hrs)
               Research Synthesis (0-3 hrs)

Concentration (21 hours minimum)
     Students in English Education must complete at leaset 21 credit hours in the English
     Education Concentration which includes the specialization (9 hours minimum) and approved
     electives (12 hours minimum).
              
               SPECIALIZATION (9 hrs minimum) from the following list:
               EDEN 5263 Special Topics in Literacy I(3 hrs)
               EDEN 6263 Special Topics in Literacy II (3 hrs)
               EDEN 5213 Secondary English Curriculum (3 hrs)
               EDEN 5223 Teaching Composition: Theory and Practice (3 hrs)
               EDEN 5233 Teaching of Literature: Theory and Practice (3 hrs)
               EDEN 5243 Teaching of Language: Theory and Practice (3 hrs)
               EDEN 5253 Research in English Education (3 hrs)

               English Education ELECTIVES (12 hrs minimum)*
               Graduate courses in language, literature, composition and other English
               Education rleated areas relevant to student's goals and interests.
               *Advisor Approved

                Doctoral Degree
         Core (23-24 hrs minimum)
                ILAC 6013 Proseminar in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum (3 hrs)
                ILAC 6023 Theoretical Issues in ILAC (3 hrs)
                Studies in Teaching and Learning
                Studies in Cultural Diversity (3 hrs)
                Research Methodology (12 hrs)
Specialization (36 hrs minimum)
                English Education
                Coursework in English Education, such as issues, curriculum, pedagogy, research, and
                language studies (e.g., composition, literature, language arts), as approved by the
                advisor and committee.
 

                Education and Related Areas
                Coursework in education and related areas that support the student's professional
                goals such as learning theory, communications, human relations, anthropology,
                philosophy, psychology, sociology, and teaching as approved by the student's
                advisor and committee.
 
                Content Areas
                In consultation with the advisor and committee, the student may select course work
                from various areas of English and other related content areas.

Electives (12 hrs maximum)
    Dissertation (9 minimum-18 maximum hrs)
