The purpose of the Instructional Leadership concentration (ILAC/ILAC) is to provide students with an alternative to other concentrations that is compatible with the interests and expertise of the faculty in the ILAC department.

Core (11 hrs minimum)

Studies in Teaching and Learning (3 hrs)
Studies in Cultural Diversity (2-3 hrs)
Research (6 hrs)
Research Synthesis (0-3 hrs)

Concentration (20 hrs minimum)

Specialization (9 hrs)
    Students are required to take a minimum of 9 hours in the Department of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum, as appropriate to their professional interests and as approved by the advisor.

Electives (11 hrs)
    Students must take a minimum of 11 hours in ILAC and /or related educational areas, as appropriate to their interests and as approved by the advisor.

Total Core and Concentration Hours: 36

ILAC 6013 Proseminar in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum (3 hrs)
ILAC 6023 Theoretical Issues in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum (3 hrs)
Studies in Teaching and Learning (3 hrs)
Studies in Cultural Diversity (3 hrs)
Research Methodology (12 hrs)

Specialization (36 hrs minimum)

Instructional Leadership (9 hrs post-masters)
    Students are required to take a minimum of 9 hours in the Department of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum after the masters degree and not including dissertation hours, as appropriate to their professional interests and as approved by the advisor and committee.

Education and Related Areas
    Coursework in education and related areas that support the student's professional goals, such as social foundations, developmental processes and learning theory, curriculum and supervision, and technology, as approved by the advisor and committee.

Content Areas
    In consultation with the advisor and committee, the student may select course work from the various concentrations inside and outside the College of Education that support the student's professional goals.

Applications cannot be considered until all required materials have been submitted.  The Office of Admissions and Records has charge of all matters pertaining to general admission to the University.  Admission and enrollment in the Graduate College is governed by the Graduate Dean.  A student must be recommended for admission by the ILAC department and the Instructional Leadership program concentration.  Prospective students are encourage to consult the Graduate College webpage (www.gradweb.ou.edu) for additional information about admission to graduate programs at the University of Oklahoma.

Additional Information for Prospective Doctoral Students

            A prospective student interested in the Instructional Leadership concentration should meet with the ILAC Graduate Liaison to discuss whether the studentŐs goals are compatible with the concentration.  At this time the Graduate Liaison will suggest that the applicant meet individually with faculty members whose interest and expertise are similar to the studentŐs goals.  The student should feel comfortable meeting with several faculty members without either having to make a commitment.  In addition, prospective students should indicate in their goals statement possible faculty in the department with whom the student would want to work.  Subsequently an interview with the program faculty to discuss the application and to describe the general structure of the program is required prior to admission into the program.
