Dr. Tan served as professor of higher education, teaching courses dealing with research methodology, leadership development, assessment, strategic planning, institutional research, and statewide coordination and governance. He also taught organizational change and development, racial and cultural diversity, and diversity and justice in organizations in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Tan served as chair of the department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. At the national level, he is peer evaluator-consultant (PEAQ and AQIP) for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. He is also an active participant on many national organizations.
