Joyce Brandes is an Associate Professor of Special Education in the Educational Psychology Department. Dr. Brandes has been a faculty member since she earned her Ph.D. in 2004 and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. Her current areas of research address preservice preparation as it relates to attitudes toward teaching students with disabilities in inclusive settings, the influence of ideological beliefs on attitudes toward inclusion, attitudes toward students with cultural and linguistic diversity, and evidence-based reading and writing strategies for students with disabilities. Dr. Brandes has been recognized for her teaching by the students of The University of Oklahoma Student Association as an Outstanding Faculty Member for The University of Oklahoma and as the Campus-wide Most Inspiring Professor by The University of Oklahoma Student Athletes. Dr. Brandes serves as faculty advisor for the OU Student Council for Exceptional Children and was recently awarded the Maurice P. Walraven Award for national and statewide service to individuals with special needs.
