Juanita Gamez Vargas
Dr. Gamez Vargas is Assistant Professor in the Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Department, Adult and Higher Education (EDAH) program. She created the Community College Leadership (CCL) emphasis, M.Ed. & Ph.D., for the EDAH program. She teaches and conducts research in higher education leadership in the areas of 4-year and 2-year presidential leadership roles in public and private institutions. She is currently working on projects targeted at the partners of state university presidents; female community college administrators; dual-enrollment, recruitment and matriculation of first-generation community college students; and, college knowledge development of Latino parents and their children. Before coming to OU, she was Dean of Instructional Support Services at McLennan Community College, Waco, Texas. Dr. Gamez Vargas was awarded the Ed Cline Faculty Development Award in 2010. She was awarded a Fulbright (2000, Germany), U.S. Administrators in International Education. She was selected for leadership programs such as Harvard Institutes for Higher Education. MLE Institute: Leading Transformation and Change and the National Institute of Leadership Development (NILD). She currently serves in the Continuing Education Council as Chair at OU in additional to other committees on campus and off-campus.
