As Emeritus Professor in the JRCOE, Mike Angelotti develops courses that emphasize how intuitive play with painting, poetry and prose can serve individual growth as creative thinker, abstract artist, writer and teacher. For example, each summer he offers EDEN 4273/5273: Creativity in Teaching Composition (Paint-Write), a unique four-week workshop course appropriate for students of all disciplines that allows participants opportunities to pursue personal growth in the visual-verbal arts as well as integrated arts approaches to teaching writing, literature and language in the context of their own pedagogical studies. No formal painting or literary writing experience prior to the course is necessary. In celebration of their paint-write accomplishments, each student takes home a personal portfolio and a course anthology of student work. Recent anthologies are accessible under Publications below.
Professor Angelotti’s most recent published abstract art and literary writing are available in two current online journals: Red Truck Review, A Journal of American Southern Literature and Culture, Vol. 1 No. 1 (2014) and Vol. No. 2 (2015): and Ubiquity: The Journal of Literature, Literacy and the Arts, Vol 1 No. 1, 2014:. He also is poetry judge for The Oklahoma Writing Project’s Anthology of Winning Writing, which honors the literary writing of Oklahoma students and teachers. The 2014 edition is available on Amazon. His ongoing projects include two books of poetry and a handbook on the creative and teaching processes related to Making Paint-Write Happen.
