The Clery Act is named in memory of 19-year-old Lehigh University freshman Jeanne Ann Clery (pictured here). On April 5, 1986, Jeanne was asleep in her third floor room at Stoughton Hall. Three doors, with automatic locks, were propped open with pizza boxes. Her attacker, another student, entered through the opened doors intent on stealing from unoccupied rooms. Finding Jeanne alone in her room, he raped her then strangled her to death. Jeanne and her parents had chosen this university because they believed it was a safe place for her to attend school.

Statistics Act (Clery Act) is the landmark federal law, originally known
as the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act. The Clery Act requires
