Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) Grant

The Center for the Study of Wireless Electromagnetic Compatibility is located on the Norman Campus of the University of Oklahoma.

Reaching an important milestone in its history, the University of Oklahoma’s Center for the Study of Wireless Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) was awarded a prestigious Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) Grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  The University of Oklahoma’s Wireless EMC Center will become one of only 50 NSF Industry/ University Cooperative Research Centers operating in the U.S.

The I/UCRC Program is designed to develop highly leveraged, industry/university research centers focus on industrially relevant, fundamental research topics.  It brings the Center added credibility and recognition, as well as financial support to our program.  To receive this grant, which is only awarded after extensive peer review and scrutiny, validates the Center’s research efforts. The peer review process included experts in EMC research and technology from Universities, Industry, and Laboratories.

The NSF is an independent federal agency created by the National Science Foundation Act of 1950, as amended (42 U.S.C. 1861-75).  Its aim is to promote and advance scientific progress in the United States.  NSF funds research and education in science and engineering.  It does this through grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements to more than 2,000 colleges, universities, and other research institutions in all parts of the United States.  The Foundation accounts for about 20 percent of federal support to academic institutions for basic research.

NSF receives approximately 30,000 new proposals each year for research, graduate and postdoctoral fellowships, and math/science/engineering education projects; it makes approximately 10,000 new awards.  The Foundation’s advisory system, which focuses on both program direction and specific proposals, involves more than 59,000 scientists and engineers a year.
