Sooner Innovation Fund
Grants from $500 to $5,000 - Applications for Spring 2020 due Jan. 24th. The Sooner Innovation Fund has grants ranging from $500-$5,000 to help OU students transform ideas into reality. The SIF is a self-paced, 10-week proof of concept program designed to help OU students test the feasibility and marketability of their ideas, products, and services. It has three phases. First, you will submit our short application online. Second, you will learn how to test your product, service, or technology. Third, you will execute the tests you designed with guidance from the OU Center for Entrepreneurship staff.
We invite technological innovators, product creators, social pioneers, and creative artrepreneurs to explore the possibility of turning their ideas into market disrupting products and services.
Example of Sooner Innovation Success
Mary Motley, a sports management and entrepreneurship student started her entrepreneurial journey with the Sooner Innovation Fund. Her venture, Banners, is a sports prediction app enabling users to engage with teams and fellow fans at live sporting events; providing valuable, on-site data for venue and team marketing departments. While many sports marketing groups know all about their fans outside of the arena, or stadium - they have little awareness of what they prefer to do inside their facilities. Banners fills this data gap. Embracing lean startup methods, Banners was able to design and implement a successful test without ever developing an actual app. They went on to earn accolades at the first OU Entrepreneurship EXPO, and would later compete in the 2019 Love's Cup business plan competition; taking 2nd in the High Growth Undgraduate dision and securing $10k in funding.
