Important information for your geographical analysis project on an African country:

  1. View this as an opportunity to become familiar with one country and its internal politics.
  2. Identify salient geographical patterns, environment, resource base, population, and culture.
  3. Try to understand regional interests, frictions, and conflicts. Some very small countries may have little regional differences from one area to another.
  4. Investigate the legacies of European colonization and/or imperialism in your country.
  5. Analyze the social/economic infrastructure.
  6. The paper should be one page in length with a second page which will be a map of your country. Make your own map! Do not copy a map from another source. Show political/geographical patterns on your map, not simply the locations of cities, rivers, etc.
  7. You may need to seek additional information. Try the internet, particularly The Washington Post.
  8. This assignment is due on Thursday, October 30. Get this out of the way before you celebrate Halloween.

Read the Washington Post article concerning Angola for class discussion on Tuesday, October 28.
