2001-2002 Academic Year

Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band

Jim Hansford, Chair

The 2002 Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band promises to be an historical musical event under the baton of Dr. Frederick Fennell, pre-eminent wind conductor and founder of the Eastman Wind Ensemble. The OIHB will rehearse and perform at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association conference on January 16-17, 2002.

Ken Grass, Director of Bands at Tulsa University, has agreed to coordinate large equipment needs for the band. Our music chairman again this year is Jim Hansford at OBU. He will be mailing audition music soon after the band has been selected in November. David Christy, Director of Bands at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, will be handling auditions, and James South, Director of Bands at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, will be making percussion assignments.

Nomination forms are due by Monday, October 30. Student selections are made on the basis of: 1) director ranking; 2) class ranking; 3) instrumental needs, and 4) institutional representation. Students who were selected in the past and did not show up will not be considered. All students who are nominated should understand that they are required to be present at all rehearsals and the concert. The schedule for the Intercollegiate Band is as follows:

Wednesday, January 16

1:00p.m. Organizational meeting
1:15-3:00p.m. Auditions on the first parts from the concert repertoire (music will be sent to directors as soon as possible after the band is selected)
