You can apply to the University of Oklahoma School of Dance using the forms described below. You can save the forms to your computer and open them in Acrobat Reader. Fill them in onscreen by clicking above any line or in any box. You may tab from one field to another. (Note: you cannot save the forms as filled in; you can save your work only by printing the form.) Alternatively, you can print the forms first and fill them in by hand.
Undergraduate applicants must submit an undergraduate application to the University of Oklahoma. An audition at one of the two audition dates offered by the School of Dance is also required.
Graduate applicants must submit a graduate application to the University of Oklahoma and submit a graduate placement application, a resume, a video containing a personal performance as well as their choreography and three recommendations to the School of Dance. An audition and interview will be scheduled following graduate faculty review of the video and application materials.
Undergraduate auditions will take place on Monday, October 13, 2008, and Saturday, January 31, 2009. In order to reserve a space at the audition, you must contact Kate O'Brien either at kobrien@ou.edu or by telephone at (405) 325-8064.
Attire for the ballet audition is a black leotard, pink tights and ballet slippers and pointe shoes for women. Men are to wear a white T-shirt, black tights and black ballet shoes or white ballet shoes with white socks. Attire for the modern audition is either a footless black unitard or a black leotard and footless black tights. Hair must be secured off the face and neck for both auditions. Each student must provide a full-length photo in dancewear at the time of the audition.
The ballet audition will consist of a technique class with pointe and men's work. The modern dance audition will also consist of a technique class. Only students auditioning for admission as a modern dance major must also provide a DVD of a brief solo to be reviewed by the faculty. After the audition, faculty members will be available to answer questions from parents and prospective students.
If you wish to apply for a scholarship from the School of Dance, you must submit a scholarship application, a full-length photo, two scholarship recommendations, and a letter indicating your reasons for selecting dance as a career and a brief description of your previous training. An audition by the School of Dance is also required. Deadline for scholarship application has been extended to March 15.
Several graduate assistantships are available. The assistantships involve teaching classes for non majors or assisting faculty and they include tuition waivers, health insurance and a monthly stipend. To apply, please complete the application for graduate assistantship and return to the School of Dance.
A limited number of highly competitive graduate fellowships are available. The fellowships involve teaching classes for non majors or assisting faculty. They include tuition waivers, health insurance, a supply fund, travel funds and enhanced monthly stipend. To apply, please complete the application for graduate fellowship and return it to the School of Dance with a copy of a recent research paper.
Graduate admission recommendations must be made on the prescribed form and returned to the School of Dance. If you are an applicant, you can print out the form, fill in your name and send the form to your references or direct them to this page.
