Contemporary Dance Oklahoma

Historic Holmberg Hall in the Reynolds Performing Arts Center
Join Contemporary Dance Oklahoma for an exciting production of modern dance featuring choreography by OU faculty member Derrick Minter as well as innovative new works by guest artists Helen Simoneau and Kathleen Ridlon. In addition, audiences will enjoy a work in the Jose Limón style, staged by legendary dancer and choreographer Fritz Ludin.

Rupel Jones Theatre
Oklahoma Festival Ballet presents an elegant evening of dance with a beloved classic, Sleeping Beauty Act III, an inspired contemporary ballet by faculty member Steve Brule, and the restaging of Les Biches, a renowned Ballet Russe era ballet by Bronislava Nijinska.

An audition is required of prospective undergraduate students planning on entering OU in August 2009. Students should reserve a place at the auditions by contacting Kate O'Brien (kobrien@ou.edu) in the School of Dance office.

Helen Simoneau

Guest artist Helen Simoneau is a native of Québec, Canada who has presented her award-winning choreography in Canada, Europe and the United States. Ms. Simoneau will be teaching modern dance and staging one of her works for Contemporary Dance Oklahoma's December production.
Kathleen Ridlon
September 25 through October 4
Kathleen Ridlon is a dance professional with over twenty years of teaching and performing experience. She is currently an assistant professor of dance at Knox College and director of Midwest Dance Group. Ms. Ridlon will be teaching modern dance and staging a new work for CDO.

Susan E. Brackett Distinguished Visiting Artist Chairs
The University of Oklahoma School of Dance is honored to welcome internationally renowned dancers and teachers Betty Jones and Fritz Ludin as its fourth Susan E. Brackett Distinguished Visiting Artist Chairs. Renowned as dancers with the Jose Limón Dance Company, Jones and Ludin have also been instrumental in developing and teaching Limón technique around the world.

3:30 p.m. - Ballet (ages 13-18)
Intensive classes in ballet and modern dance offered as a supplement for serious young dancers ages 10-18. Classes will be taught by OU School of Dance faculty in the Fine Arts Center on OU's Norman campus.

SummerWind Youth Ballet Camp 2010
June 20 through July 3 - on the OU campus in Norman
The OU School of Dance hosts SummerWind Youth Ballet, a two-week training program for dance students ages 11-14 and 15-18 years old. Curriculum includes a variety of dance classes and seminars taught by School of Dance faculty and guest artists. This comprehensive ballet program is aimed at educating the complete young dancer and concludes with an on-stage performance featuring class technique and rehearsed repertoire.
