Undergraduate Degrees offered at Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts

The University of Oklahoma has one of the oldest and most comprehensive college of fine arts in the Great Plains states, with highly regarded schools of Music, Drama, Art and Art History, Dance and Musical Theatre.

Fine Arts students give more than 350 performances each year in the OU Arts District alone! These shows and performances greatly enhance the lives of the people in our community, as well as provide our students with many opportunities to practice their art.  

 

OU School of Visual Art

The OU School of Visual Art at the University of Oklahoma offers numerous professional and comprehensive studio arts and art history programs. Each program is specifically designed to educate those students choosing a career in art. The faculty is comprised of teaching artists and art historians, whose knowledge, leadership and skills create a classroom environment that is both productively rewarding and personally challenging.

School of Dance

The School of Dance is considered one of the leading programs in the nation for training in ballet and modern dance technique. The school emphasizes performance and now boasts two performing companies. Both companies are committed to performing works from the national repertoire by choreographers such as Ailey, Balanchine, Battles, de Mille and Arpino. Oklahoma Festival Ballet has a repertoire of over 40 ballets, eight of them full-length, while Contemporary Dance Oklahoma features one-act modern dance works. Opera and musical theatre productions provide additional performance outlets, as do productions of student choreography and international tours to such countries as Austria, Japan, Ecuador, Mexico, Taiwan, China, France and Paraguay. Students develop a national perspective and networking opportunities by working with established guest artists each semester.

Helmerich School of Drama

Students from the Peggy V. Helmerich School of Drama have received significant recognition through exceptional accomplishments with the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival in Washington, DC, having garnered record setting numbers of regional and national accolades. In an unprecedented win, both actors and design students received commendations in various competitions against colleges and universities across the country. The Helmerich School of Drama is the second oldest established school in the nation behind Yale University.

School of Music

Each year the School of Music presents nearly 300 concerts, recitals and scholarly presentations.  In late April, the school often has 25-30 student recitals in one week alone.

Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre

The Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre is one of the very few university programs in the nation that provides students an opportunity to be in the same cast with professional Broadway actors in brand-new productions.

Alumni from the Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre are extremely successful from Broadway to Tokyo working in theatrical venues across the globe. Our students go on to work as actors, producers, directors and choreographers in all aspects of the arts industry.
