James Garner

Each year artists from all over the States and many foreign countries visit the campus to work with our students. These include internationally famous actors, voice and movement teachers, designers, technicians, dramaturgs, and playwrights. Past guest artists have included Lou Diamond Phillips, John Cullum, Larry Drake, Actors from the London Stage, Jane Boston, Ian Ricketts, Jade McCutchen, Mark Meinart, Gillyanne Kayes, Andrew Wade, Louis Broome, Tina Packer, Willa Kim, Ken Kercheval, and Mark Medoff.

 

Thanks to contributions from School of Drama family and friends, we continue to grow with state of the art equipment and upgraded performance spaces.

Generous contributions from School of Drama Alumnus A. Max Weitzenhoffer have allowed us to enhance our inventory of intelligent lighting instruments. Mr. Weitzenhoffer is a highly acclaimed independent producer of New York and London theatre productions and has won numerous Tony, Olivier, Evening Standard and Drama Critics awards. Awards from the University include the 1992 Regents' Alumni Award, the 1988 Alumni Association's Distinguished Service Citation and an Honorary Doctorate at the 2000 Commencement ceremonies. In 1994 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

Our 80th Anniversary season featured a number of exciting collaborations with guest artists.

Ken Kercheval performed the role of the Stage Manager in our production of Our Town.

OU Alumnus and famed actor Larry Drake performed the role of the grandfather in our production of You Can’t Take it With You.

OU Alumnus and working actor, Carlton Richard also joined the cast of You Can’t Take it With You.

We hosted an exciting assembly of guest artists last season, including costume designer, Willa Kim and Shakespeare specialists Tina Packer and Andrew Wade.

Visiting playwright, Louis Broome collaborated with on a our production of his play, Texarkana Waltz,

 

The Kirkpatrick Foundation provided us with a substantial gift, allowing us to build our long-awaited audio/visual studio.

School of Drama Alumna, Nicole Poole, has endowed a scholarship for graduating seniors relocating to New York City.

The generous support of E. Frank Gilson continues to sustain our production needs and further addresses student scholarship needs.

Increased financial support from the Theatre Guild has provided more scholarships for students, an immeasurable gift to our students and the entire School of Drama.
