Upon its premiere in 1938, Our Town revolutionized American theatre by telling the story not of stylized caricatures of heroes and villains, but of an ordinary family in an ordinary place at an ordinary time. As the consummate mirror for the everyday human experience, it transcends time and space to move audiences just as strongly today as it did over half a century ago. Join us to rediscover this American treasure with your family and rediscover your own extraordinary life within.

Rimers: November 12, 18, 20 at 8 p.m. and November 14 at 3 p.m.
(in repertory) A. Max Weitzenhoffer Theatre
Two plays that paint revealing portraits of the underbelly of American society, The Laramie Project and The Rimers of Eldritch explore the dangers that lurk amidst small communities that harbor shuttered minds, hearts and souls. As a violent act and a mysterious murder set the scene in an eerie Iowa town haunted by the ghosts of yesteryear, The Rimers of Eldritch unfolds through the eyes of broken characters dreaming to break free from a stifling and repressive community. The Laramie Project is based upon hundreds of interviews with the people of Laramie, Wyoming, concerning the infamous murder of Matthew Shepard. With this play, Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project created a profoundly moving theatrical experience that left media stereotypes and politics at the door, challenging communities all over the nation to examine one of the strongest threads in the fabric of human morality: compassion.

In 1936, the inimitable writing team of Kaufman and Hart wrote a Pulitzer Prize-winning story about a group of lovably eccentric characters that gave American theatregoers a reason to smile in the midst of the Great Depression. Watch the sparks fly as the lovely Alice struggles to keep the strait-laced sensibilities of her fiancée's family and the unconventional lifestyle of her own family from spontaneously combusting. The result? An exhilarating blast of comedic dynamite.
