Production Meetings

Weekly production meetings are one of the most important tools of the production team. These 30-minute (see below for exception) meetings are arranged by the Design/Tech faculty and attended by the Director, Designers, Stage Manager, Faculty Advisors, and other production personnel as needed/available. Well-organized meetings save valuable time and energy in every aspect of the show. This is often the only time that all production team members are in the same room and provide the forum to catch up on each other’s work, discuss crossover items, and check on the progress of the production as a whole.

The first production meeting for any SOD production will be one hour in length and include a director’s presentation of concept.  To avoid confusion and surprise, we recommend preliminary informal design concept meetings with members of the design team (student designers should ask for faculty attendance or report back afterwards).

Topics/items for production meetings include:

  1. Script studies/questions
  2. Production schedule
  3. Budget breakdown
  4. Special requirements
  5. Shift requirements
  6. Prop lists
  7. Sound cue list
  8. Lighting ideas
  9. Plans and sections
  10. Costume sketches
  11. Individual area reports
