Degree Requirements
Undergraduate students are required to complete a minimum of at least forty hours of upper-division coursework for graduation, to include 24 hours of upper division course work in music. Music majors must make a C or better in all music courses. Music courses in which a D or F is received must be repeated. (See Enrollment Limitations.) Students in the School of Music must have a GPA of 2.5 in both their OU retention GPA and combined GPA to graduate. In addition to the Senior Capstone Experience, students must take at least one upper-division General Education approved course outside the student’s major. For music students, usually this course is a non-western culture course; however, it could also be a social science or natural science course.
Students must follow the degree sheet that is valid for the year they entered OU. If changes occur in a degree program after a student begins work at OU, he/she has the option of completing the requirements stated for the year in which the student began work at OU or for a more current year.
If a student does not enroll for one calendar year, the university requires that he or she be readmitted. At that point he/she will be required reaudition, be reaccepted into a music degree plan and complete the degree requirements currently in place at the time of readmission.
