Piano Proficiency

All students majoring in music must satisfactorily demonstrate a level of proficiency in piano appropriate to their respective degree programs. Students in music education or music performance can satisfy this requirement by completing the required number of levels of group piano and/or piano with a grade of C or better for each level. Passing the final exam at the conclusion of Group Piano IV constitutes passing the proficiency for Group Piano. Students in composition must demonstrate their MIDI proficiency through examination. All students will be auditioned and placed into appropriate levels of piano at the beginning of their musical studies on campus. For music education majors, the piano proficiency requirement must be satisfied prior to enrolling in student teaching.
