College of Fine Arts School of Music Undergraduate Handbook

Recital Attendance (MUTE 1010)

To help ensure that music students are aware of the varied and numerous performance opportunities, and to encourage educated listening skills and habits, all undergraduate music majors are required to enroll in and satisfactorily complete MUTE 1010, Recital Attendance. Each degree has a different number of satisfactory semesters required. Please review your degree requirements.

Grading: A grade of “S” will be given for attendance at ten concerts or recitals for which the student is not a performer. At least seven (7) performances must be OU School of Music sponsored concerts or recitals. Up to three (3) performances may be off-campus events, such as the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, Canterbury Choral Society, or OKC Chamber Music Series. “Incomplete” is not a grade option. All ten events must be completed by Friday, the week before dead week. Students may check their attendance records in the School of Music main office each week.

Attendance: The recording technician will verify who you are at the conclusion of the event using your picture ID and mark the Master Attendance Sheet. Students must attend the entire event, show their program to the attendance monitor, and present their picture ID to receive credit. No credit will be given retroactively nor will any credit be awarded without a picture ID (preferably an OU ID)! Programs will not be accepted in lieu of having their card scanned!

Off Campus Events: If you are using an off campus event for credit, have your major applied teacher verify your attendance by signing the program and bring it to the School of Music main office. Make sure you include your name and ID number on the program to ensure proper credit. Programs should be submitted to the music office during dead week and finals week.
