Sophomore Proficiency Exams
A formal sophomore proficiency exam is required of all students to assess their readiness to study and to perform literature at the upper-division level, to assess their progress in applied study and potential to perform degree recitals, and to assess their ability to complete degree work at an appropriate level in the chosen degree. This exam normally is longer than the regular semester jury performance exam. Students should consult with the applied faculty concerning their individual performance at the sophomore proficiency exam. Students not passing this exam will be advised to pursue a different major. Students should inquire as to the performance and technical requirements for this exam from their major applied instructor.
