Midi/Computer Facilities

The School of Music at OU houses two facilities equipped with the latest hardware and software in music technology.

The computer music studio (Cattlet Music Center 202E) is available to students who attend specific Music Technology courses. It currently operates with a Macintosh G5 Quad and Pro Tools HD192 system. The studio hosts one Mackie d8B digital mixer, and the latest Mackie Onyx 2480 analog mixing board. Sound is diffused via a 7.1 surround system based on Mackie HR824 active speakers. Various professional recording and controlling equipment is installed, such as a direct-to-CD recorder, DAT recorder, Tascam DA-98 8-track digital recorder, a KAT percussion MIDI controller, Yamaha, E-MU, and Kurzweil synthesizers, iCubeX motion sensors, and a sizable collection of high quality microphones. Software includes the latest version of Pro Tools, Max/MSP, Peak Pro, Jitter, and tons of quality plug-ins such as Waves Gold, GRM, Pluggo, Oxford, etc.

The MIDI lab is located on the ground floor of Cattlet Music Center in room 006A. Although the lab is used during the weekday mornings and early afternoons for Music Theory and Music Technology classes, it is open for student use every day in the late afternoon and evening. The lab is equipped with 20 iMac-based workstations. Each workstation includes a Kurzweil K2vx MIDI keyboard, a M-Audio Audiophile Firewire audio interface, and a Kawai MX8BR line mixer. Installed software includes Digital Performer 4.5, Finale 2006, Max/MSP, Csound, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office. Finally, the workstations are networked to a laser printer, so the students can print their scores, or projects.
