European Portraiture from the 17th through 19th centuries

An exhibition from the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which is being circulated by the American Federation of Arts. It consists of 15 paintings illustration a variety of national schools and styles of portraiture: the realism of the Dutch, the fashionable overtones of Van Dyck and 18th century England, the sensitive rendering of French 19th century painting. Artists are Courbet, Degas, Dobson, Van Dyck, Hals, Hoppner, Gainsborough, Lenback, Lawrence, Pot, Renoir, Santvoort, Sustermans, Walker, and Leighton.
