Utamaro and Hokusai
May 3 – 9
This exhibition is composed of original prints and reproductions by two of the great Japanese printmakers. Accomplished in the technique of the wood-block print, these artists were able to concentrate on the subject of their inspiration so that, today, the prints remain as a warm and vital commentary upon the life in Japan during the first part of the nineteenth century. Twenty-four prints and thirty-six reproductions are supplemented with picture books, interpretation and reference books.
