Works by Joe Taylor, Professor of Art at the University of Oklaoma in Norman for 36 years, will be on display in the Lower North Gallery.


His work includes monumental sculpture, bonze busts and plaques, portraits and ceramic designs. Exhibited widely in the United States, Joe Taylor’s sculptures are on permanent display throughout Oklahoma and the Midwest. The  Bizzell Memorial Statue, the plaque of Dr. Kaufman in Kaufman Hall, the bust of Dr. Gittenger in Gittenger Hall and the portrait of former president George Cross are just a few examples on the campus of the University of Oklahoma in Norman.


In 1960 Joe Taylor was elected to the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and three years later was awarded the David Ross Boyd Professorship at OU. He became Professor Emeritus in 1969 and received the OU Distinguished Service Citation in 1977. Retired since 1969, Taylor is still active in sculpture as well as cattle-ranching.
