Current OU faculty and staff are invited to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art for a rare, sneak peek at the museum’s holdings, facilities, and resources available to the university community.  Enjoy complimentary cocktails and small bites while learning how to integrate art into your curriculum and daily life.

The Mellon Foundation Lecture in Native American Art

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the OU School of Visual Arts present a public lecture by Kathleen Ash-Milby, Associate Curator at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York. Ash-Milby’s keynote talk, Native Art in the 21st Century: The Future is Now, will acknowledge both historic shifts and progress in the field, as well as challenges for the future. The lecture is supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art and the OU School of Visual Arts present new scholarship on Indigenous museology, curatorial practice, and art history. Join us for a series of paper presentations from nationally-selected undergraduate and graduate students. Schedule and speakers TBA. The symposium is supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Join photography dealer and curator Jon Burris as he presents Still Looking: The Sustainability of Collecting Photography, a lecture outlining the 40-year collecting practices of Carol Beesley Hennagin. Burris’s presentation will be followed by a complimentary, public reception.

Museum members are invited to preview the Ticket to Ride exhibition before it officially opens to the public. Join us for beverages and hors d’oeuvers, as well as complimentary valet parking.

7 p.m.: Public Opening Lecture

Members at the Supporter level and higher may reserve seats for the lecture by exhibition curator Hadley Jerman, the Eugene B. Adkins Assistant Curator. Seating in the auditorium and overflow is expected to fill up quickly, so please call (405) 325-5990 to reserve your spot today!

Join OU Assistant Professor of Sculpture Daren Kendall as he leads a gallery talk through Threshold With Me, followed by a live performance in collaboration with ballet choreographer Boyko Dossev.

 

Silver Soirée: A Party to Spy For

Norman’s must-attend fall fundraiser returns with a license to thrill! For the first time in the museum’s history, the Sandy Bell Gallery will be transformed into an immersive experience, transporting our guests to the sophisticated, espionage-riddled 1960s. Our fundraising goal of $30,500 (£21,735) will upgrade the museum’s accessibility equipment, including gallery stools, assistive listening devices and updated wheelchairs.

Trick-Art-Treat
3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31

OU students are invited to our second annual Trick-Art-Treat event, now filled with even more ghoulish delights! Take a chilling tour of our galleries and snap a picture in our haunted photo booth (costumes provided). Divine your creative future by using the Art Tarot, and don’t forget to grab some candy before you leave!

Celebrate our new holiday tradition as model trains take over the museum for the last half of December! The opening night includes art activities, banjo lessons, a cookie and hot cocoa bar, and performances from the OU School of Dance. This family-friendly event starts at 6 p.m., and a train-lighting ceremony starts at 7 p.m. Don’t miss it!
