Cade The Flagship program offers first-class instruction in Arabic Language and Culture that is found only in four other American universities. Through Arabic Table, conversation mentors, and free tutoring, I am able to attain hands-on help from instructors who are committed to ensuring that I get the best understanding of Arabic language and culture possible. This will help me interact with people from an Arabic culture once I graduate from OU. Lastly, being a graduate from a flagship university puts me in the front of the queue of Arabic language graduates, which will in turn help me to find satisfying work opportunities. |

Alizah Major: Science Education/Pre-med Minor: Honors Being able to speak another language is becoming increasingly important, and the cultural and language experience Flagship gives can open so many doors for the future. I plan on either being a doctor or a teacher. If I decided to be a doctor, I could communicate with the rising population of Arab people in America. If I decide to teach, I could teach Arabic to students in America or even teach English to students in an Arab country. Being able to work in the Middle East would be an incredible opportunity. |

Patrick Learning Arabic is an important part of my career goals. I want to work overseas in the Middle East, so this is an essential skill. The Flagship Program will help me do this by both preparing me here to truly learn Arabic and then give me the opportunity to study it extensively overseas. Understanding the culture is critical to full comprehension of the language, so our table meetings are very useful. |

Kalli Major: Anthropology, Spanish Minor: Arabic After I graduate from OU, I want to attend graduate school to study anthropology with a focus on issues in the Middle East and Latin America. I don't know precisely where that will take me, but my goal is to be able to apply my knowledge of language and culture to some kind of meaningful international work. The Arabic skills I will gain in the Flagship Program will help me to connect with people in a part of the world that would otherwise be inaccessible to me, where someday I will hopefully work and perform research. |

Chelsea I think that the Flagship program will be a great way to become immersed in Arabic language and culture. Being able to speak Arabic will give me an edge in my future career with the US government. I feel that being able to understand the Arab perspective is something that is much needed in American government today and I hope that the Flagship Program will help me to understand that perspective and help to improve America's relations with the Middle East. |

Chad You can't truly learn a language until you've been forced to use it in the native setting. The year in Egypt would probably not be an affordable option if not for the Flagship program. The weekly Arabic discussion table and other events also help in practicing Arabic above and beyond class work. |

Joshua As for my goal of speaking Arabic one day, Arabic Flagship offers many services that aid students. The tutors of the Flagship Program enable us to learn Standard Arabic and also the dialect that they use in everyday speech. Also, if I work hard enough, the Flagship Program will send me to Egypt. |

Emily Frances Major: International Security Studies/Arabic Minor: Japanese My future goal is to serve human rights interest abroad and in America. Learning Arabic is integral to this goal. Aside from job opportunities, Arabic is a beautiful and diverse language that is worthy of study on its own. Therefore, the Flagship Program is specifically helpful and engaging not only because it monetarily allows me to study, but it also provides support through staff and various organizations groups that facilitate the study of Arabic. |

The people in the program have done nothing but make me feel welcome and valued, even in such a rare major. I am so excited to continue my goals and the Flagship program is making that easily possible for me. |
