Dr. Valerie Watts, D.M.A.

Dr. Valerie Watts is an Assistant Professor of Flute, teaching the undergraduate and graduate level, at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Watts is a member of the Oklahoma Woodwind Quintet and has played flute and piccolo in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra touring as solist and chamber musician in Europe with the Eastman-Dryden orchestra and the Oklahoma Woodwind Quintet.

A 1993 finalist of the Festivales Internacionales de Flautistas Enterprises and a former fellow at the Bach Aria Institute and Festival, Stony Brook, N.Y, Dr. Watts has recorded with the CBS Masterworks, Integra, and W.W. Norton labels. She earned her bachelor's degree, suma cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Music, and MM and DMA degrees in flute performance from the Eastman School of Music.

She is presently principal flute in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra and also serves on the faculty at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain, Oklahoma. In addition, Dr. Watts is principal flutist with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra during the summer and occasionally performs as guest flutist throughout the Los Angeles area with the Bach Camerata based in Santa Barbara, CA.
