Designs evaluated for medical use

OU Health Sciences Center doctors and nurses have tested these designs and determined they are essential and effective in the fight against Covid-19.

Information for providers, patients, and manufactuers can be found for each product. Check back from time-to-time as more designs go through our validation process to production.

Renegade Respirator

  • Fitted using heat molding techniques
  • Can be sanitized
  • Durable

The Renegades Respirator was tested and passed both the full-8-exercise fit test and the shortened 4-exercise fit test, both are OSHA approved fit test techniques. The test probe was an N95 probe kit, installed in the front of the mask with silicone sealant on the inside.

Patient IsoBox


 

This medium sized isolation box is used during respiratory therapy procedures. The IsoBox covers the patient limiting sputum and aersol from spreading to personnel or equipment; making these procedures less dependent on PPE. 

The box design is not novel, but the IHub Fab Lab developed silicone diaphragm, is.  This layered barrier limits the amount of particulate transferred during treatment.

Walk-In IsoBox


 

The walk-in isolation box limits the burden on PPE supplies during testing procedures. These lightweight, durable boxes protect healthworkers and patients from viral particulate. The plastic and metals used are easily sanitized.

Herring Face Shield


Simple design, needing only frame, shield, and strap - with optional forehead band for comfort. Fram and shield can be sanitized for multiple uses.

 

This face shield frame, designed by Nathan Herring, tech lead, Tom Love Innovation Hub, can be 3D printed, laser cut, or CNC machined. It works with a simple hole-punched 8.5x11 piece of transparency paper - a readily accessible material through amazon or other retailers.

Thibodeau Face Shield


Simple design including only frame, brace, shield, and strap - with optional forehead band for comfort. The lower brace makes this frame more rigid than the Herring..

Silicone Head Strap


This strap's simple design has received positive reaction from our healthcare professionals for its durability and comfort.
 

This silicone strap, designed by Tyler Thibodeau, senior tech lead, Tom Love Innovation Hub, will fit most open source face shield designs available and all found here.

Mobile, PPE Decontamination Containers

Critical PPE like N95 respirators and other medical masks continue to be in short supply. While manufactuers are producing these products quickly as possible, decontamination systems are proving necessary as stop-gap measures extending the life of regularly, single-use masks.

Pathology researchers at OU's Health Sciences Center have tested just such a system using vapor phase hydrogen peroxide and relatively few pieces of equipment to disinfect hundres of masks in under three hours. System is easily set up in mobile containers like conex boxes.
