Hester Baer, (Ph.D., Washington University, St. Louis), Assistant Professor, German. Her research focuses on gender and popular culture, with a particular emphasis on German film and literature from the post-World War II period. Baer is currently working on a book manuscript about spectatorship and popular German cinema of the 1950s. She has also published articles and book chapters on various aspects of German cinema and on recent Mexican film. In addition to courses on German literature and culture, Baer teaches an annual course on German Cinema. She received her PhD in German from Washington University, where she also earned a graduate certificate in Women's Studies
