Robert Lauer

A. Robert Lauer is Professor of Spanish and Film in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics and the Film and Video Studies Program at OU. He received his BA from the Ohio State University and his MA and Ph.D from the University of Michigan. He is the author of four books: 1) Tyrannicide and Drama: Part I. The Tradition of Tyrannicide from Polybius to Suárez; Part II. The Tyrannicide Drama in Spain from 1579 to 1698, Archivum Calderonianum 4 (Stuttgart, Ger.: Franz Steiner Verlag, 1987); 2) The Restoration of Monarchy: «Hados y lados hacen dichosos y desdichados», Ediciones Críticas 72 (Kassel, Ger.: Edition Reichenberger, 1997); 3) Hispanic Essays in Honor of Frank P. Casa (co-edited with Henry W. Sullivan), Ibérica 20 (New York: Peter Lang Publishing, Inc., 1999); and 4) The Influence of Father Suárez in World Politics (Columbus, OH: The Ohio State U Dept. of Spanish & Portuguese, 1974). Forthcoming books are: A Critical and Annotated Edition of Calderón de la Barca's auto sacramental «El tesoro escondido» (Kassel & Pamplona: Reichenberger & U de Narvarra) and Cervantes y su mundo III, co-edited with Kurt Reichenberger (Kassel: Reichenberger, 2005).  In addition, he has published more than 60 articles in several areas of Hispanism and Film, with an emphasis on Spanish Drama of the Golden Age. As General Editor for Peter Lang Publishing, Inc. (New York), he has also published ca. 40 volumes that form part of the monograph series Ibérica. He has lectured extensively in the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East, has received three teaching awards (two from the University of Wisconsin System and one from the OU Cecil W. Woods Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching), and has done consulting for the Modern Language Association of America (New York) and the National Research Council (Washington, D.C.). His great passion in life is to travel.
