Student Film Production Club (SFPC)

The Student Film Production Club works to promote student productions, educate its members, and develop their skills in the field of video production. Although sponsored by the Film and Video Studies program, the club is open to all OU students and provides its members a place to develop production projects and meet other like-minded people. In addition to holding regularly scheduled meetings and special events, the club also maintains information on this page, a web forum page (www.soonerfilms.com), and a Facebook page to facilitate student contact.

SFPC Announcements

Thinking about taking a bigger role in the Stududent Film Production Club (SFPC)? You can do so by running for office or taking the lead on a committee. At the next meeting (Sept. 17 at 9 P.M., DH 112) we will begin the election process for officers. Candidates will be given a chance to read their platforms to the club. Voting will begin at the meeting and continue for two weeks (so that those who could not make the meeting can vote) and the new SFPC officers will take their positions on Oct. 1st.

TO RUN FOR AN SFPC OFFICER POSITION:

Notify Dr. Boyd:
E-mail the SFPC faculty advisor, Dr. Katrina Boyd (at kgboyd@ou.edu) with your full name, the office you plan to run for and a brief platform statement NO LATER than 5PM on Thursday, September 17th.

Present Your Platform at the Meeting (or have it presented):
Plan to attend the September 17th meeting to present your platform to the group. If you are unable to attend the meeting but wish to run, please let Dr. Boyd know and she will present your platform (or you can send a proxy to present for you). You may also post your platform on the SFPC's Facebook group and website.

Pay Your SFPC Membership Fee at the Sept. 17th Meeting:
Plan to pay at least a basic membership fee of $10 at the SFPC meeting, in order to be eligible for an officer position.

To see a description of the officers' duties, please see the end of this message or look here under Article VIII: Duties of Officers: http://soonerfilms.com/forum/index.php?a=topic&t=23

COMMITTEE CHAIR POSITIONS

The SFPC will soon form 3 long-term committees to handle a few aspects of the club. Those will be:

1. A committee to handle applicants for screenings of student films with other groups (CAC Film Series, TV4OU, The Other Film Club, etc.)
2. A committee to handle inquiries from external groups that wish to collaborate with the SFPC.
3. A committee designed to plan training workshops for club members.

And of course, short-term committees will be forged to handle individual events as they spring up (such as the 24-Hour Film Blitz).

Although we will also be electing committee chair’s this year (older committees were usually run by officers), we have decided postpone the committee chair elections until after the officer elections. It is possible to run for an officer seat and for a committee chair. To run for a committee-chair position, you must also have at least a basic membership at the club, which is $10.

If you're interested in any of these positions, we would love to hear from you and hope that you will show up at the Sept. 17 meeting.

Best of luck to everyone!
