Summer 2020

Dean's Letter

As we see every day, the pandemic has interrupted all facets of American life, and higher education hardly is immune. We at Gaylord College and OU have spent considerable time preparing as best we can for reopening the Norman campus for the fall semester, which begins Aug. 24.

To be able to do so successfully has taken much more preparation than in any recent summer.

Student Support at Gaylord College

Students at Gaylord College endeavor to fulfill versatile roles as storytellers, persuaders, entrepreneurs and more, but as many continue to endure the obstacles surrounding loss of employment due to the COVID-19 outbreak, their educational pursuits are at risk. Our priority is to find ways to help them overcome the financial challenges they face and to ensure they are able to enroll for the next semester and continue their academic careers.

Gifts of any size will combine to impact our students and their ability to pursue their dreams. If you are able, please consider supporting our students through the Gaylord College Student Support Fund and click here to give online.

We appreciate your continued partnership and your consideration of helping our students in need. If you have any questions, please contact Lee Reynolds, Director of Development and Alumni Relations at leereynolds@ou.edu or call (203) 216-6518.

Letter from the Editor

In the last few months, the world has needed stories and truth more than ever. In a time where many can’t leave their homes for anything except essentials, the things that have brought us together have been information and entertainment.

Whether you binge-watched all of "Tiger King" in a weekend or have been staying updated through local and national news, there’s no denying the importance of journalism in our daily lives. While many Gaylord students and alumni look toward an uncertain future, one thing is certain: our current students are equipped to handle these new changes with passion, thoughtfulness, and tenacity. (The same goes for our current media professionals.)

Gaylord will always be a special place for anyone who walks through its halls. And while those halls may look a little different right now, our faculty, staff and students have been up to many wonderful things, further proving that there’s nothing better than a Gaylord education, especially during a pandemic.

I hope you enjoy reading about their successes as much as I did!

Have a wonderful summer; stay safe and be well!
