JayMac

Journalism and Mass Communication alumni group

The Friends & Alumni Association of the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, nicknamed JayMac, was organized in1983 with a mission to promote esprit de corps for the college and its faculty, students and alumni and to encourage the pursuit of excellence within the school and among the practitioners in the profession.


Specific objectives were to:

  • Develop a continuing interest in the school from its graduates and former students
  • Encourage students through incentive programs such as awards and scholarships
  • Promote an interest in the school among high school students
  • Create an awareness of financial needs of the school



JayMac Board Members

The JayMac Alumni Association is led by a group of volunteer directors. The directors and officers for 2008-2009 are: Heather Cook, president; and Jolly Brown Pugh, vice president; Nancy Coggins, secretary/treasurer; Sean Simpson, immediate past president.


Alumni Banquet

For more than 20 years, JayMac has hosted an annual banquet featuring the Distinguished Alumni Awards in Norman. In addition, the club honors a Young Professional each year at the banquet and recognizes excellence in teaching and research by presenting the JayMac Teaching and JayMac Research awards, as well.

Pulse Magazine

The organization publishes Pulse, the Gaylord College’s alumni publication. JayMac also sponsors new graduate receptions in both the fall and spring as a part of the college’s convocation ceremonies.
