Broadcasting & Electronic Media Course Requirements

In addition to the University-Wide General Education requirements, Broadcasting & Electronic Media majors must complete a minimum of 43 (maximum of 50) hours in journalism and mass communication.

JMC 2033     Writing for Mass Media*

JMC 2623     Electronic Media Writing

JMC 2644     Intro. to Video Production

JMC 2683     Survey of Electronic Media

JMC 3011     Mass Media Practicum
                    (3 for one-credit each required**)

JMC 3613     Electronic Field Production

JMC 4653     Issues & Ethics in Electronic Media (Capstone Course)

JMC 4813     Mass Communication Law


9 hours in BEM track required courses

6-13 hours of JMC electives



Other requirements*

*The  LST/AIT must be passed in order to enroll in JMC 2033. If transferring 2033 infrom another institution the LST/AIT must be passed to complete Gaylord College admission.



Practicum Requirements**

Participation in co-curricular activities is expected of all BEM students. To gain credit for activities, each student will take three semesters of practicum. Each practicum is one credit and requires a minimum of 6hours per week of activity.  There are a variety of practicum opportunities offered to students each semester. A student may repeat a specific practicum once.
