Public Relations Course Requirements

Undergraduate Degree

In addition to the University-Wide General Education requirements, Public Relations majors must complete a minimum of 36 (maximum of 40) hours in journalism and mass communication.



Strategic Communication Students

Specific requirements include:

JMC 1013     Intro. to Mass Communication

JMC 2033     Writing for Mass Media*

JMC 3413     Introduction to Public Relations

JMC 3423     Public Relations Writing

JMC 3433     Public Relations Publications

JMC 4403     Public Relations Campaigns - Senior Capstone

JMC 4453     Public Relations Research

JMC 4803     History of Journalism

JMC 4813     Mass Communication Law


And at least one course from:

JMC 3800     Internship

JMC 4423     Public Relations Case Studies

JMC 4433     Sports Public Relations

JMC 4443     Financial Public Relations

JMC 4463     Public Relations Management


Six hours from JMC 3000-level or higher electives


*The  LST/AIT  must be passed in order to enroll in JMC 2033. If transferring 2033 in from another institution the LST/AIT must be passed to complete Gaylord College admission.
