TV4OU Gets New Name and New Home on Cox Cable Channel 124
On Aug. 27 the University of Oklahoma acquired its own dedicated, local educational access channel, OUTV. OU’s student-run television channel, previously known as TV4OU and headquartered at the Gaylord College of Journalism & Mass Communication, has moved from Norman’s Cox Channel 4 to Cox Channel 124.
The move will greatly expand the coverage of the OUTV station from 30,000 homes in just the Norman area to more than 180,000 across the Oklahoma City metropolitan viewing area. In addition, OU Nightly, the award-winning student newscast, will also be broadcast live Monday through Friday during the academic year at 4:30 p.m. on Cox Channel 7 in Oklahoma City and Channel 3 in Tulsa, reaching more than 450,000 homes beginning September 21, 2009.
Current Cox digital cable customers in the Oklahoma City metro area will be able to view OUTV Channel 124, as long as they have either a digital television that includes a QAM tuner or are a Cox digital cable customer with a digital receiver from Cox. For customers not able to view Channel 124, Cox is making a special offer for digital cable service at the Robinson Crossing store at 1278 N. Interstate Drive. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
For more information about OU’s student-run television channel, OUTV, please contact Lynn Franklin at (405) 325-2830 or glfranklin@ou.edu.
