Background

David Tarpenning began his career as assistant manager of the Oklahoma Press Association, working with Ben Blackstock. He later became creative director with Jordan Advertising and following that, creative director with Beals Advertising. In 1971, he started his own advertising agency, serving a variety of local and regional accounts. Ownership involved wearing many hats: creative, public relations, marketing, media, production...and the somewhat important day to day operation of a business, including employee relations. Called upon frequently to fill in for teachers at various higher education levels, he found teaching a unique challenge and intends to make it his new career.
